Last night my daughter was doing her homework for art history class and on the internet, on the Metropolitan Museum's website she found this beautiful painting by Turner called The Lake of Zug. I was so excited: this is where I lived when I was little - in Switzerland, close to the old medieval town of Zug on the Zugersee, this lake!
Joseph Mallord William Turner (1775-1851) was British, and after traveling to the Swiss mountains painted this in 1843. I remember Zug like this - spacious and bright - even though I lived there about 120 years later, maybe it hadn't actually changed that much!

This is my picture of Zug that I made when I was about six. I don't have very many pictures from when I was little - A lot of things got thrown out every time we moved. But I remember very distinctly working on this one because I had just gotten a new box of beautiful crayons. Look how bright the sun is! Remembering Zug always makes me feel happy!
