Does everybody know that here in NYC we have our own version of the Edinburgh Festival?! As part of The New York International Fringe Festival that is coming up, I want to recommend a wonderful puppet show by Jennifer Levine called The Miracle on Monroe Street
The show is based on a true story of her grandmother's when she was a little girl living on the Lower East Side. It is very exciting and dramatic and gives a wonderful flavor of NYC about 100 years ago. Infact Jennifer’s grandmother is turning 100 next May, and will be coming to some of the performances! You will hear her voice at certain points mixed with music and sound effects on the tape that accompanies Jennifer’s narration and performance.
Jennifer was recently in my children’s book class at SVA, and I saw her show in May at the JCC and I was absolutely captivated, as was the entire audience, children and adults alike. Jennifer says that the little theater where she will be performing creates an especially wonderful atmosphere for the show. It is a very big honor to be part of the festival - I don’t want to give anything away, but a bakery figures in the plot: you are in a for a treat!
The 30-minute show will be performed on:
Saturday, August 11 @ Noon
Thursday, August 16 @ 6:45 pm
Saturday, August 18 @ 8:30 pm
