Lydia loved being part of Serenade when the advanced SAB students performed it with the NYCBallet (see this previous entry). Here she and her friends are getting ready putting on their fake eyelashes and pointe shoes.

And here they are backstage just after the performance with their teacher Suki Schoer, who had rehearsed them. The evening was very poignant for the girls. For most of them, from level "D", this was their last time performing together, and performing onstage at the State Theater with the NYCB. Most of them are dispersing to different ballet companies to start their dance careers or to college to start promising new futures. For Lydia and the girls from "C2" they will all return in the fall for their final year at SAB.
On a related note, one girl, from D, and 8 boys have been asked to be NYCB apprentices. It hasn't been officially announced, because they aren't beginning just yet, so I guess I shouldn't list them. But I can't contain myself from atleast saying congratulations!
I love celebrating eventful turning points with beautiful desserts. As everyone knows, I have a big sweet tooth! And I just had my birthday! With friends we had a delicious assortment of cakes from Payard, a wonderful bistro and patisserie on the upper east side. When ever I go there and walk through the front door, I feel like I am walking right into Paris.
PS on June 25th: It was a fantastic but bittersweet ballet weekend of turning point debuts and farewells. I will never forget Alessandra Ferri’s Juliet - Swan Lake Samba Girl posted marvelous photos of her farewell curtain calls. Oberon wrote a beautiful tribute to Kyra Nichols. And a high point was Ashley’s Bouder in Rubies. It was a great season at the NYCB and I’m only sad I now have to wait months to see my favorite dancers again in the fall.
