This is a bit how I'm feeling today! We arrived this morning from New York and I'm exhausted and jetlagged! After tea and a pastry from my favorite bakery, Maison Blanc in Chelsea, I went to Tate Britain to see the wonderful exhibition of John Everett Millais (1829-1896). Today was the last day of the exhibition, so I was lucky to catch it. (It is going next to Amsterdam to the Van Gogh Museum.) It was a beautiful, sumptuous exhibition (in spite of being packed with crowds of people!) Millais is enormously popular here but I'm not sure how well known he is in the US? He was a very important English Pre-Raphaelite painter in the mid-19th century. This piece, Ophelia, is perhaps his most famous painting. I have loved it over the years whenever I visit the Tate. In this exhibition, it was fantastic to see the huge range of Millais's work. I love when an exhibition starts with work of an artist when they are very young. There were some amazing paintings that Millais did when he was only 17 and he went on to have a very long, successful career
We are in London for barely 48 hours, visiting my sister, before we are off to Germany. We have a busy schedule ahead with Lydia's ballet auditions. I'm glad to have a moment to gather my energy in London, my home away from home, before setting off.
