I love this photograph by Paul Kolnik of Lydia, my daughter, on the left and Megan Johnson on the right, performing Concerto Barocco together in Workshop. The big exciting news is that today they started as apprentices with the NYCBallet!!! They just got the news a few days ago, just after Workshop, that they would start right away when they got back from DC. Off they went this morning for company class and rehearsals. They are over the moon!
(There are also more apprentices on the way, but because it's not official
and they aren't starting yet, I better not say more. I'm sorry because I know people want to know!)
For Lydia and Megan this is a really busy week because they are also in the SAB performances coming up at NYCBallet as part of the Jerome Robbins Celebration. With NYCBallet they are going to learn 3rd movement corps of Brahms-Schoenberg Quartet and then perform on Friday. It is all happening so quickly!
And now as Lydia makes the transition from student to professional dancer it seems the right time to hand things over to her. I hope she will contribute here once in a while with pictures and impressions as she is starting out. I was very proud to see her leave for "work" this morning! What an exciting time!
Please extend my CONGRATULATIONS to Lydia! This must be an emotional and
exciting time for both of you. I'm thrilled to have this connection via
your blog. Seeing her dance in class (SAB Alumni wknd) was a thrill. She
is a bright and and beautiful dancer. I look forward to seeing her perform.
(And, yes, it would be wonderful if she contributed to your blog).
Thank you, thank you for your good wishes!! Maybe Lydia will post some
pictures from her "debut" ballet dancing with the company - at least I'm
hinting to her that would be fun - the costumes for Brahms-Schoenberg
Quartet are so pretty!
Lydia is a position that so many aspire to (myself included, 30 years ago);
reading her impressions, experiences would be a gift. (not to mention the
amazing costumes!)
She and Megan took pictures of each other last night in their beautiful
first costumes. I'm sure Lydia will put some pictures up as soon as she has
a moment!
As you can see, there is an extraneous indefinite article in my comment
above.
I didn't even catch that! ( Maybe I just read it with an Italian accent.)
But my accent is Southern, and not from the Boot of the Italian peninsula.
So, I had to remove the wayward article. ;-)
Yes, but you sing beautifully, including Italian opera too, am I right?!
Any word on who the other 2008 NYCB apprentices are?
I wish I could let the cat out of the bag, but I'm not suppose to because
it is not "official" yet. The young women and men have been offered their
apprenticeships and have been told they will probably start in October.
Everyone has been seeing lovely dancers in Workshop and now the SAB
performances at NYCB, so I know people are wondering! I wish I could say
more, but not yet!
